Updated Plans and Sanitized Hands - Shifting AAF Dallas

Dear members, friends, sponsors,

After much thought, AAF Dallas has decided to cancel all in-person events until Spring 2021 this includes postponing our Shining Stars event scheduled for September 3.

AAF Dallas was founded in 1908 to be the unifying voice of advertising and to elevate the industry both locally and nationally. In the last 112 years, we’ve largely been an event-based organization and this pandemic has forced us to be introspective about our purpose, mission and responsibility towards our members and potential attendees to our events.

We believe now more than ever in our mission of elevating and unifying the voice of advertising.

We are actively planning virtual experiences for you such as:

  • continuing education that focuses on actionable changes our industry needs to make in recognizing the importance of diversity, multiculturalism and belonging,
  • giving back to our community through our skills and resources, and
  • developing the future of our industry and world through our education initiatives.

We recognize that the industry’s needs are changing day-to-day and week-to-week, so we’ll be sending a series of surveys and polls for you to let us know what you need and expect from AAF Dallas and all its board members. Expect the first survey  next week. Please take the time to fill out these surveys.

If you have suggestions or concerns please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]

Thank you,

Jorge Rosales, President of AAF Dallas

The Top 20 Women in Dallas Advertising - 2020 Shining Stars Class Announced

Update 8/4 - After much thought, AAF Dallas has decided to postpone our Shining Stars Reception until Spring 2021. We originally rescheduled this event in March when the pandemic was new and seemed it would have an expiration date. We see now that we are in the next, new normal and will likely be in this normal at least through 2020. Celebrating talent is important to us at the AAF, and we still want to honor them both virtually (on 9/3) and in person at a later date; so our hope is that we will be able to combine our 2020 and 2021 classes at the same reception sometime in May or June of 2021. We hope you understand our decision to postpone this event for now.

The wait is over. We're sorry for the delay! AAF Dallas is excited to announce who the top 20 women in Dallas advertising are!

AAF Dallas is celebrating the 4th annual Shining Stars awards program which honors top women in Dallas advertising. In 2017, we launched our AAF Dallas Shining Stars program to celebrate amazing women doing amazing things in Dallas advertising. Inspired after attending the Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame event, we googled “top women in Dallas advertising” and the result was “The 10 Most Beautiful Women in Dallas” instead of finding women who are producing thought-provoking and innovative work, breaking through barriers to create something new, or forging partnerships that drive growth. We believe ambition, work ethic, creativity, and leadership are qualities to celebrate and elevate. We believe when you get 25 incredible women in a room, great things happen. We believe it’s time that the nation recognizes our city as the talented advertising market that we are…and so the AAF Dallas Shining Star program lives on. See last year's group here

Dress code is semi-formal. Table reservations are on hold at this time This event will have very limited capacity this year and has consistently sold out in years past. Therefore are no individual ticket sales at this time. We are currently only booking tables for our honorees and their companies at this time!  Please register for our mailing list if you would like to be notified if individual tickets go on sale. In the mean time, one way to show support for your favorite Shining Star is to takeout an ad in this year's book. For information about tables reservations reach out to Allison McCaslin at [email protected]

We’re thrilled to announce the fourth class of AAF Dallas Shining Stars. These women are Community Leaders, C-Suite Executives, Co-Founders, Executive VPs, Strategic Masterminds, Media Mavens, and more. They are breaking glass ceilings and elevating the Dallas advertising community to heights we have never seen before! Congratulations!

We plan to announce this year's recipients in the first two weeks of May, then recognizing them formally at our Shining Stars Reception on September 3 at The House of Blues. Over the past few weeks all of our worlds were turned upside down after COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic. As this continued to unfold, it became apparent that we would not be able to conduct business as usual in regards to our luncheon programming and talent recognition programs like Shining Stars through the rest of our fiscal year. Since 1908, AAF Dallas has been bringing the industry together through our many events and initiatives to make our industry a better place to work and the world a better place to live in. We have been working diligently behind the scenes to ensure we can still do this in these unprecedented times.

Here's how we are responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic:

  • SHINING STARS NOMINATIONS: We are extending the 2020 Shining Stars Nomination Process until May 1. We are going to see so many amazing rockstars shine during this unprecedented time. It is completely free to nominate some and to let them know you think they are worthy of being recognized for the contributions to your team and the Dallas advertising industry. Nominate your star here!
  • SHINING STARS GALA: We have postponed the 4th annual Shining Stars Gala until September 3, 2020.
  • CANCELLED MEETINGS: We are cancelling all in-person meetings and events for Ad 2 Dallas and AAF Dallas through June 2020.
  • RECRUITING FOR THE BOARD: We are looking for our new 2020-2021 board of directors. This is a great way to give back to our community. Please reach out to Allison ([email protected]) or Jorge ([email protected]) if you have any questions about volunteering.  Learn more information about which roles we are filling here.
  • CONNECTING PEOPLE: We are making our job board completely free of charge for anyone in the advertising industry who is looking for a job or candidate. If you have been impacted by layoffs, please consider advertising yourself and your resume on our job board.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: We are actively looking for experts who would be interested in leading webinars over the next few months to provide our members with free content. Email [email protected] if you are interested in sharing your knowledge.
  • GIVING BACK: We are looking for advertising professionals of all flavors to join our adhoc committee to create PSAs for our city to use. Contact [email protected] if you are in creative, production, project management, or media. We need a few people from each discipline to pull this off.
  • SHELTERING IN PLACE: We are conducting all meetings over the phone or via UberConference to ensure the health and safety of our board members.
  • HERE TO LISTEN: Please reach out to us if you need support from AAF Dallas. As you all know this is evolving and we are looking to jump in where we can.

With all this being said, we miss you! During this time, we hope you remember how important our industry is during all of this. We are storytellers who have the unique opportunity to help our clients keep their doors open and create meaningful messaging to our country during times of fear and uncertainty. We have the power to spread hope and humanity. We hope you take this opportunity to make the world a better place through your work and actions. Let us know what we can do to help you.

Thank you,

Farhan Rehmani, AAF Dallas President
